The challenge
The Water Services Association of Australia (WSAA) is the peak industry body representing the urban water industry. We were engaged to determine the priority requirements for a Knowledge Management System (KMS) for water utility employees that would help them to identify sewerage system issues and make quick and effective decisions.
Approach
To prepare the KMS requirements document we:
– facilitated a working group workshop
– identified KMS best-practice features and their fit-for-purpose with WSAA
– conducted a survey
– performed product scans
– evaluated potential solutions to meeting the requirements, ballpark costs, existing WSAA IT environment and ability to be integrated with the WSAA Portal.
Outcomes
We provided a fully described and prioritised functional requirements document for the KMS components. Components included the dashboard, search, creating a record, content formats, library, storage and retrieval, portability and access, scalability and identity and access management.
The product scan and cost benefit assessment revealed that best fit for the KMS was to develop it as a combination of new components and enhanced functionality of the existing WSAA portal.
